MATERIAL REPRESENTATION
DIPTYCH DRAWING

SPRING 2017
USC, Lauren Lynn

My library blurs the boundaries between inside and outside by intertwining the library and bee keeping programs. My intention is to mirror the human actions with the bee actions in an effort to create a more experiential environment to learn, read, and relax.

The largest translucent lite spaces are where the library and bee spaces merge. These towers are made out of floor-to-ceiling shelves that alternate between plants, books, and honeycomb. One space solely being for the bee keepers and the other open to the public. The thickened walls transition between opening to the interior courtyard and the exterior library in order to create the illusion of being both inside and outside simultaneously and in direct contact with the bees. The other clear spaces are used to enclose additional private programs such as offices, bathrooms, changing rooms, and storage.

The translucent color of these zones allows for natural light to enter and reflect color onto the building spaces. My intention is to use the material to create a cold and stone looking exterior that uses slight visible color to suggest something extraordinary on the inside. The interior has colorful and warm materials that act as both organic and artificial nature. The model was further used as a conceptual representation in which soap and museum board convey the different elements.
